  • Submit class enrollment starting from your appointment start time.

  • Change your request, if necessary, before end of add/drop period.

Students may look up course and class information of Summer 2024-25 on Class Schedule & Quota

Students may refer to the FAQ for class enrollment to refresh the knowledge using the SIS for class enrollment.

However, some of the class enrollment rules and practices in regular terms do not apply in Summer which include:

1. Add/Drop Deadlines

Add/Drop requests of Summer courses can be submitted daily (except system maintenance period from 7:30am-9:30am every morning) before add/drop deadlines of the courses.

Some courses have a higher add/drop rate in Summer than in regular terms.  There may be more students dropping their enrolled courses in Summer and the waiting students may find themselves move up the waiting list faster than they have anticipated.  Therefore, if you are waiting for a course, make sure that you check your updated class enrollment record frequently.  It is very important that you cancel the waiting requests if you do not want the changes to occur.  If you are on the waiting list of a class and you no longer want to enroll, you should cancel the request disregard your queue position on the waiting list.

Courses offered in Summer have different add/drop deadlines. If you have a pending swap request involving 2 classes of different add/drop deadlines, the swap request will be removed when the earlier deadline is reached. The original confirmed class will remain.

Extended drop deadline applies to some postgraduate courses only.  PG students who have taken UG courses have to follow the add/drop deadline of UG courses which normally do not have extended drop period.

Students should allow sufficient processing time for the System to handle their add/drop requests.  Completion of an add/drop process depends on a lot of factors such as system loading.  Please avoid delaying the submission of your add/drop requests to the last minute at closing of add/drop.  According to the University academic regulations, requests for adding/dropping courses after the add/drop period will not be accepted.

2. Limit on Number of Courses Enrolled

A student is allowed to enroll for only ONE COURSE during the assigned class enrollment period.  The limit on the number of course enrolled will be adjusted on 6 June 2025.  From 6 June, 2025 onwards, the maximum number of courses a student is allowed to enroll will be THREEIn addition, the maximum study load of 8 credits for part-time students, including normal credit load of audit courses, is still in force in Summer.

Enrollment of more than three courses will only be considered for students graduating in Summer 2024-25.  For such cases, endorsement from major departments will be required.

3. Special Notes to Final Year Students

Students who have applied for graduation in Spring Term 2024-25 are normally NOT allowed to continue registration in Summer, unless special approval is granted.  Please contact the ARS if you have any questions.

4. Student’s Responsibility

Students should be responsible for seeking academic advice, checking up academic regulations and taking appropriate enrollment actions.  Courses that are inappropriately enrolled may not be counted towards graduation requirements and will lead to failure to fulfill degree requirements.  De-registration of courses violating university regulations may take place after add/drop period.

Notes:

(1) Class Enrollment

There are 3 major periods in the class enrollment process supported by the Student Information System (SIS) :

  • Validation Period (Shopping Cart Appointment)
  • Enrollment Period (Enrollment Appointment)
  • Add / Drop Period (Open Enrollment)

(i) Validation Period (Shopping Cart Appointment)

  • This is the common period when you prepare your class enrollment requests after seeking academic advice from program office. You may search for classes, look up course information and plan your schedule, until the end of the add/drop period.
  • Before you proceed to the next class enrollment stage, you may also need to request for approval from course instructors and/or program office for special class enrollment/drop cases.

(ii) Enrollment Period (Enrollment Appointment)

  • You will be assigned an appointment start time to submit class enrollment requests in the shopping cart to confirm enrollment.
  • Again, enrollment can be processed till the end of add/drop after the start time.

(iii) Add/Drop Period (Open Enrollment)

  • You may change your course/class choice during the announced add/drop period.
  • Request for auditing a class can be submitted during this period.
  • Extended Drop Period is for regular full-term postgraduate courses only.
  • According to the University academic regulation, requests for adding or dropping courses after the add/drop period will NOT be accepted. Students should allow sufficient processing time for the System to handle their add/drop requests. Completion of an add/drop process depends on a lot of factors such as system loading. Please avoid delaying the submission of your add/drop requests to the last minute at closing of add/drop.

(2) Maintenance Hours

The system is available around the clock except during the maintenance hours (07:30am – 09:30am) every day in the morning.

Your own validation and enrollment periods can be found at the “Student Center” of SIS. Click the “details” link in the “Enrollment Dates” section there for more appointment details as well as the term unitload assigned to you.

(4) Students are responsible for their own studies at the University

You should seek academic advice, understand academic regulations and take appropriate enrollment actions. De-registration of courses violating university regulations may take place after add/drop period.
